DANCE DIARIES:
Learning Ballroom Dance
What I Wish, I Had Known
by The Girl with the Tree Tattoo
BookBaby
Non-Fiction
42 pages

Why didn't anyone tell me? Ballroom dancing is fun, magical and, most of all, life-changing. When I first started learning ballroom though, I fumbled around awkwardly and sometimes painfully, figuring things out as I went along. Certain things weren't explained or just never came up in conversation. From what to expect in class to how to find the right teacher or dance partner to how much ballroom really costs, Dance Diaries: Learning Ballroom Dance covers the things that I wish I had known when I first started learning ballroom. This quick read is your cheat sheet to help you get the most out of your ballroom experience.

MY TIDBITS

This book not only gives a multitude of tips, tricks and 'what-to-watch-out-fors' when it comes to learning ballroom dancing, but feels like a conversation with a best friend over a hot cup of coffee.

The author's enthusiasm and love for ballroom dancing is obvious from the very first page and she wastes no time in diving into the reasons why she and/or someone else might consider entering this sport. Through her own experiences, the author explains not only the various learning possibilities (among others--private or group lessons) but continues on through other topics such as etiquette, social aspects and even the relationships which can form between teachers and students.

This is a quick, easy read. The information is brought across systematically while still maintaining a personal touch. The various examples filter in between the facts naturally, allowing the information to build into 'real life' scenes. There are many aspects, which wouldn't necessarily be touched upon when normally gathering information at a dance school. Not only are the different possibilities on learning to dance explained, but the author offers pros and cons as well as her own honest opinions about each one. This book offers a whole new insight into the possibilities and several points which would never pop up in a normal dance school information session.

The last chapters leave the beginning dance class arena and head on into the pro-amateur competition realm. Although a new dancer won't be entering this area right away. . .or maybe ever. . . the thoughts and insights aren't only interesting but the added humor is simply fun to read. The author is open, speaks from the heart and relates aspects of ballroom dancing which would never be mentioned in a more professional conversation.

Summed up, this is a great little book for anyone who has even played with the thought of entering the world of ballroom dancing. The bits of experience and insight are interesting as well as enjoyable, and bring light on what this wonderful sport can really mean.

And here she is. . .
The Girl with the Tree Tattoo!!!

Katie is known as the Girl with the Tree Tattoo because of the tree of life tattoo that covers her entire back. She has been taking ballroom dancing lessons since December 2012 and competing in pro-am ballroom competitions since April 2014. It was through ballroom dance that Katie started to discover who she really was and what she was capable of, despite the demons of fear, self-doubt, and anxiety that live in her head. Through sharing her own experiences, Katie hopes to lead others to experience the amazing effect ballroom dancing can have on a life.
